Consultation on Gosport Post Office

Upon visiting my local Bridgemary Post Office recently, I was handed a '˜proposed move to new premises consultation form'.

The existing staff were still shell-shocked and distinctively upset about the news.

This Post Office has been established for over 30 years.

I, personally, have used it since moving to Bridgemary in 1980.

A six-week consultation will determine if the existing post office in Nobes Avenue Bridgemary will be re-housed within Kev Jones Family Store just 30 metres away.

A new area at the back of Kev Jones shop will be built if successful with the proposed transfer.

However, the opening hours would be considerably increased, which certainly has its advantages for the local community.

The new Post Office would be open Monday to Friday from 5am to 9pm, Saturday from 7am to 9pm and Sunday from 8am to 8pm.

If the existing staff could remain in their jobs long-term with the suggested transfer, it would make the transition more positive for all concerned.

Almost all the existing services would continue.

Post Office services will be offered from two tills on the retail counter in a modern open-plan branch.

The consultation began on March 2 and ends on April 15.

Submissions can be made by emailing [email protected] or filling out a survey at postofficeviews.co.uk with the code 057937.

Alternatively, you can
collect consultation forms at Bridgemary Post office, McCoy’s Retail Group, 186 Nobes Avenue, Gosport, P013 0HY.

The change is part of a major modernisation taking part across the Post Office network – the largest in the history of the Post Office.

The programme is underpinned by government investment seeing 8,000 branches modernised.

There will be additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches.
