The makeshift measure was yesterday put in place outside PDSA in West Street, Havant, after a piece of the store's facade fell two storeys on to the pavement below.

It is not known if anybody has been injured '“ or whether more material has fallen '“ but close-up images show stonework missing from the top of the building, where rubble originally fell.

A spokeswoman from PDSA said: '˜We are aware of an incident at our Havant Shop on Thursday morning.

'˜Our facilities contractor was immediately called to the site to secure the area and make it safe as quickly as possible. We will be conducting a full investigation into the incident, and would encourage anyone with any further information to contact us directly.'
