As a hairdresser, Jamie Sheppard loves to use her skills to make people feel good about themselves.
But when she realised there were some customers who needed extra help, she decided to buy a special wig and give it away to the most deserving person.
Jamie, who recently opened new hair salon Sheppard & Co in what was The Swan pub in High Street, Cosham, explains: 'I have been doing so many people's hair, but I began thinking about those people that I wasn't able to help.
'I started doing hair extensions and then came across some people wanting wigs. They can be so expensive though, so that's when I decided to buy one and donate it to someone to make them feel good. '
She adds: 'You could be in with a chance to win this beautiful wig, plus full fitting and makeover, for someone who you thinks deserves it. Maybe it is someone who has lost their hair through cancer treatment, or who is struggling with their hair for whatever reason.
'The wig can be tonged, straightened and curled using heat up to 200 degrees. The wig will be fitted by Keisha and Ellie or Laura, our make-up artists, will also do the person's make-up and help them to feel really glamorous.'
To nominate someone, all you have to do is go to the Sheppard & Co Facebook page at facebook.com/sheppardandco/ , like and share the post about the wig and tag who you thinks deserves it. Nominations close tomorrow and the winner will then be announced.
Jamie says she's delighted at how much support she's received since opening Sheppard & Co. More than 40 people flocked to the salon’s first day.
She says: ‘The opening day was fantastic. It went really well. It has been nerve-wracking but well worth it.
‘We’ve had to do a lot of work to the building, painting it and kitting it out and getting all the equipment in place to make it look cool. It is such a beautiful building, I love it.’
The salon – which offers cuts, colours, extensions and make-up – also benefits from being neighbours with The Bridal Dressing Rooms and Serenity Beauty Room.
Jamie says: ‘You can’t get that anywhere else in Portsmouth – all three services are under one roof.’
Jamie, who got into hairdressing aged 15 through a taster day at Fareham College, has employed four staff at the salon and funded her business venture by selling her car.
The salon is open Monday to Saturday, with late nights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Jamie says: 'I want people to come and have cuts and colours regularly and not feel like it is going to cost the earth. All my team are really lovely and we are all really friendly, it’s definitely a comfortable environment. Come and give us a try.’
