Cost of plugging Southsea sea wall

We have all read about the caving in of the sea wall along Southsea Esplanade in recent weeks, but it happened before '“ 90 years ago.

I do not know the cost of bringing huge boulders from Cornwall to Southsea today to shore it up, but I wonder if the bill will come anywhere near the cost in 1925?

In the minutes of a council meeting on October 13, 1925 the War Office intimated the contractors’ outstanding claim in connection with the re-construction of the sea wall to the west of Southsea Castle had been settled.

The cost was £14,604 less £7,302 chargeable to Army Funds.

With inflation, the same sum today is £793,000.
