PEOPLE across the area are being encouraged to write a poem about Portsmouth.

The poetry competition run by United Press is free to enter and is open to all UK residents.

The competition is to write a poem about life in your own home, town or area and the best poem will win a prize of £1,000 cash.

Up to three entries can be sent in but they must be no more than 25 lines and 160 words each.
