County initiative to reduce food waste Â

The council is   asking residents to take part in a survey which is being conducted to explore people's attitudes towards food waste, composting and   to work towards reducing waste .  

The council believes an an estimated 98,000 tonnes of food is thrown away in the county each year '“ 28 times heavier than HMS Victory. 

Councillor Rob Humby,  executive m ember for environment and transport,  said: '˜Each year, councils spend over £100 million dealing with waste produced from Hampshire households. As financial pressures grow for councils we need to look at all options to reduce volumes of waste in the system to try to bring down this cost.' 

As a thank you for taking part in this new survey the council  is   entering all participants into a prize draw to win £100 worth of vouchers. The survey will be open until  December 10,  2018.
