POLICE this morning reopened a section of the M25 near the Portsmouth turn-off after it was closed by a fatal accident.

Last night a silver BMW collided with an articulated lorry at 11.55pm near junction 11.

The BMW driver was pronounced dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified. The lorry driver was uninjured.

The M25 was shut clockwise between junctions 10 - where the A3 from Portsmouth joins the motorway - and junction 11.

Police said the motorway had reopened at around 7am today.

Surrey Police said the crash has been referred to the police complaints watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission, but did not reveal the reason why.
