FIREFIGHTERS from Fareham and Gosport attended a huge blaze in a block of flats.

Crews were sent to Thornhill, near Southampton, after a fire broke out on the 12th floor of a 13-storey building at about 8pm.

A crew from Cosham was also sent to Southampton to be on stand-by.

During the blaze, three police officers from Hampshire Constabulary were treated for smoke inhalation with two taken to hospital for further treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Ten appliances were sent to Warburton Road and seven people were led to safety by firefighters.

There was extensive smoke damage in the 12th-floor corridor and the flat where the fire started.
