BURGLARS stole £11,200 of savings from a pensioner in a break-in.

The thieves struck at the 69-year-old victim’s flat in De Lisle Close, Hilsea, Portsmouth, last Saturday.

However police have only just released details of the offence.

The burglars fled with the cash that the woman had kept hidden at the flat. The burglary happened between 10am and midday.

Investigating officer PC Kate Smithers of the Portsmouth Burglary Investigation Team said: ‘Police have carried out enquiries in the local community this week and now have permission from the woman affected to make a wider appeal for information.

‘We’re appealing for witnesses to come forward if they noticed anyone acting suspiciously in De Lisle Close on Saturday.

‘Officers would also like to hear from anyone who knows about the whereabouts of this money now.’
