FUNDRAISERS got a free sandwich in exchange for charitable donations of canned food.

Subway stores in Portsmouth and south Hampshire ran the event to collect goods for Salvation Army Portsmouth Citadel in Lake Road, Landport, and Powerscourt Road, North End on Thursday (May 19).

The centres run programmes including a Good Neighbours befriending service helping housebound older people, a 56-place Neighbourhood Nursery, a community cafe and clubs for older people.

Major Ray Irving, from the Salvation Army, said: ‘This donation from local Subway franchisees is greatly appreciated.’
