The incident happened between midday and 4pm on December 26 and police have now appealed for witnesses.

Householders are urged to keep valuables out of sight along with house and car keys.

Keys should not be left in doors or where they can be easily reached, and back garden gates should be kept locked, police said.

Residents are also urged to keep doors and windows locked if they are out in the garden or upstairs, to use lighting timers of they are out of the house during the hours of darkness and leave a radio on.
