Air ambulance scrambled after bike slams into tractor in Clanfield

The incident happened in East Meon Road, in Clanfield, at about 2.47pm.

Paramedics and police rushed to the scene to help treat the injured rider – a man aged 25 – and his female passenger. He suffered serious leg injuries, a police spokesman said, as well as a suspected head injury, while the woman suffered less severe leg injuries.

An air ambulance was scrambled, landing at Clanfield Junior School.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said they remained at the scene for more than an hour.

She added: ‘We were called at 2.37pm to Clanfield in response to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car.

‘A team from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was sent out, along with two ambulances and an ambulance officer.

‘They assessed two patients. Both were taken by land ambulance to Queen Alexandra Hospital.’

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary added no arrests had been made and that the driver of the tractor was ‘in shock’ but ‘not injured’.

The source said: ‘The rider, a man aged 25, has suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

‘The woman on the bike has a leg injury but that is not as serious.’

No appeal for witnesses has been issued by police at this time.
