TWO air weapons were found in the boot of a ‘suspicious’ and abandoned car in Fareham town centre.

Police were called yesterday morning by a member of the public who reported the vehicle in West Street as being ‘suspicious’.

When officers arrived, the car was found abandoned on the land of a barber’s shop in Trinity Street at around midday.

Following a search of the black VW Gold, two air weapons were found in the boot.

The car was later seized and taken away for examination. Hampshire Constabulary are now trying to locate its owner.

One passer-by, who asked not to be named, said the police took the weapons from the boot of the car, laid them on the ground and examined them.

‘I was really shocked,’ said the man.
