POLICE are investigating a possible attempted child abduction.

A motorist pulled over and offered to give three boys a lift in the Dunkeld Road area of Gosport, between 8.30am and 8.45am today.

The youngsters did not get in the car and later raised the alarm.

A police spokesman said: ‘There was no physical contact, and the children turned down the lift.

‘They weren’t threatened and there is no evidence at this time to confirm that the motorist intended to commit a crime.

‘This is not being linked to any other incidents and there could be a completely innocent explanation for what happened.’

Officers have spoken to the families of the children, local schools, and carried out door-to-door inquiries.

Anyone with any information should contact Gosport police on 101 or use Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
