SCHOOLS have been alerted after a 13-year-old schoolgirl was followed by a man.

She was followed from the junction of Castle Road and High Street, Portchester, along Southampton Road.

The man stopped following the victim after she walked down steps into Dursley Crescent, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth.

He did not attempt to approach the girl or speak to her.

Local schools have been contacted and police have stepped up patrols in the area following the incident, which happened at about 3pm on Monday.

PC Marc Norris, who is investigating the incident, said: ‘Fortunately this was a rare, isolated incident, however we are advising children to walk home from school in groups or with adults, where possible.

‘We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or recognises the man from the description.’

The suspect is man, of a chubby build with short, dark drown or black hair and 5ft 4in tall.

He wore grey tracksuit bottoms, a grey hooded top and trainers, carried a black umbrella and was smoking a cigarette. Call police on 101.
