Allowance cuts plan is a '˜kick in the teeth'

PROPOSALS to scrap police officers' bank holiday and working away from home allowances have been called a '˜kick in the teeth'.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council has submitted to the Home Office that the allowances - apart from on Christmas and New Year’s Day - should be axed.

It comes as the Police Federation of England of Wales is asking for a 2.8 per cent pay rise for all officers.

John Apter, chairman of Hampshire Police Federation, said: ‘At a time when morale is so low and the pay cap is taking its toll on officers, these recommendations from the NPCC will be seen as yet another kick in the teeth.’
