Anger as quiet estate is upturned by car break-ins

The Little Hackets estate in Leigh Park, Havant, has seen streak of car break-ins over the past few days.

Residents say that the events have been distressing for children in the area, who have gone from playing in the streets to staying indoors.

Christine Pawlow, 32, is a car parts delivery driver. Her car, a Ford Focus ST, was broken into last night, leaving her out of pocket and with no way of getting to work.

She explained: ‘I walked out of my house at around 7.30am, and my neighbour said that their car had been broken into.

‘As I got to my car, I saw that the glass from the driver-side door had been smashed.

‘Luckily I parked quite close to my partner’s truck, which I think is why no more damage was done.’

Ms Pawlow says that the events of this week have had a massive impact on the community – with police initially reluctant to get involved.

She said: ‘Our neighbour was told by police that because there was no blood involved, they would not come out to investigate.

‘The whole ordeal has shaken our little community; my daughter is distraught – she must find this to be quite terrifying – and there aren’t as many children playing in the street.

‘It is bizarre; this is such a lovely area with such lovely people, so I just can’t understand why this has happened.’
