Cars vandalised in Portsmouth town centre

ARSONISTS who set fire to a car are being hunted by Hampshire police.

The black Mercedes 4x4 was deliberately set on fire near the junction of Mayfield Road and London Road, in North End in Portsmouth.

The blaze – which was started between 6.30pm and 6.45pm last Monday – left the car considerably damaged.

Police have only just released details.

PC Helen Bibby, from Cosham’s Targeted Patrol Team, is now appealing for information about the arson attack.

She said: ‘The victim was very upset and annoyed by this because she is very reliant on her car and has no idea who may have done this.

‘The vehicle was parked in a busy street near residential properties and whoever carried out the arson gave no thought to the danger they could have caused to residents had the fire progressed further before residents called for help.’

Anyone with any information should call PC Bibby at Cosham station on 101.

Alternatively, contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
