Armed police arrest man with axe in Portsmouth

A MAN with an axe has been arrested in Portsmouth.Â

Armed police were called to support city officers after reports of a 44-year-old man seen with an axe yesterday morning. 

Police confirmed they were called to the area around Ophir Road and London Road in North End at 10am where the man, from Southsea, was arrested on suspicion of having an offensive weapon in a public place.

He has since been released from custody, but police said he remains under investigation.
