ARMED police went to a street in Portchester after a report of a youth carrying a handgun.

Local police officers and an armed response vehicle went to Dryden Avenue at about 7.45pm on Sunday.

A woman called 999 reporting that she had walked through a subway and seen two teenagers, one of whom had a black handgun.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘Police responded to a report that a woman had been threatened by two youths. She believed one of them was carrying a black handgun.

‘There was no threat directly to the woman. When she walked past them she believed they said “What are you looking at?”’

Police carried out searches of the area, but no arrests were made. The armed unit was stood down at about 10pm. A witness statement has been taken from the woman.

She said the men were white, and about 19 or 20 years old. One wore a grey hat and orange trainers.

The other wore a grey tracksuit.

A spokeswoman added: ‘There is not thought to be any threat to the public.’

Local patrols will continue throughout the night.
