Armed robber steals cash from Co-op store

AN ARMED robber stole cash and cigarettes from a shop.

Police said a man with a weapon targeted the Co-op shop on the corner of White Dirt Lane and Drift Road in Clanfield at 9.53pm last night.

No-one was hurt in the robbery. Police did not say what sort of weapon was used.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: ‘A staff member reported a man with a weapon had taken cash and cigarettes.

‘Enquiries are in their early stages to establish the value of what was taken and exactly what the weapon was.

‘No-one was hurt.’

Staff at the store in the centre of the village declined to comment.

Alan Hudson, who is office manager at Glass Tec next door, said police had been in this morning asking questions.

He said: ‘We were shocked.

‘The police asked whether we had any CCTV.

‘I asked if anyone was hurt and they said the staff were just shaken up.’

Mum Kim Fyfield, 27, from Clanfield, said: ‘I’m just really shocked about it all.

‘Most nights I come here.

‘You would not think they would target a small store.’

A nearby resident said she did not hear anything last night.

The 46-year-old said: ‘It’s awful.

‘You don’t expect it in a little village like this.’
