AN ARMED robber got away with hundreds of pounds after holding up a Portsmouth off-licence with a gun.
The man, believe to be between 28 and 30 years-old, entered the Kwiki Mart in New Road, Kingston at around 8pm on Tuesday.
He pointed the gun at a shop worker and demanded money from the till.
The robber got away with between £700 and £800.
DC Allison Fraser from Portsmouth CID said: ‘The worker did the right thing and phoned police on 999 immediately. He’s uninjured but very shaken up.
‘He had no way of knowing whether or not the gun was an imitation and when faced with that situation it’s just not worth taking the risk.
‘Officers were on scene within a matter of minutes to carry out a search of the area. Dozens of police in total were at the scene last night to carry out investigations and house-to-house enquiries.’
Detectives are appealing to anyone with information about the robbery, particularly anyone who saw the offender leaving the scene.
The wanted man is described as black, between 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins tall of medium build with short afro hair. He was wearing a black jacket and a blue and light coloured scarf covering his face.
DC Fraser added: “If you recognise the description of the suspect, or know who did this, please get in touch.
“I’d also like to hear from anyone who may have discovered a jacket, other clothing or gun discarded, perhaps in a garden or undergrowth or anywhere around New Road.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Fraser at Fratton police station on 101. You can also call the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
