POLICE made an arrest when trouble flared between rival fans after Pompey’s FA Cup tie against Aldershot.

Clashes between fans from opposing teams started before the 2pm kick-off, with a brawl breaking out at The John Jacques pub in Fratton Road, Fratton.

Police were called in and separated the rival fans but Hampshire Constabulary said no arrests were made.

On Twitter, @drewboyblue tweeted about the brawl. He wrote: ‘Kick off big time in spoons!! Glasses and chairs all over the show!!’

@ChadPFC tweeted: ‘Just proper kicked off in Fratton Spoons, glasses and bottles thrown...Today of all days! Lucky it wasn’t near us!’

During the FA Cup first round tie at Fratton Park, which ended with a 2-2 draw, two fans were kicked out of the ground by stewards for breaching the rules, although the exact reason for their ejection is not known.

Police also received reports that a flare had been let off inside the ground, however the person responsible has not been identified.

During the match @FrattonFaithful tweeted: ‘Just seen a load of Shots fans get frogmarched to the Milton End by the local fuzz. Has there been some trouble?’

After the final whistle police said one person was arrested at the nearby Milton Arms pub in Milton Road.

Further details of that arrest are yet to emerge.

A Hampshire police spokeswoman said: ‘During the game two people were ejected by stewards at the ground for general regulation infringement.

‘We had reports of a flare being let off. No-one was injured and no-one has been identified as being responsible for that.

‘There has been one arrest at the Milton Arms.’
