A MOTORBIKE was destroyed by fire and a house was damaged when arsonists struck.

The bike was parked outside a semi-detached house in Main Road, Southbourne, when the incident took place.

Firefighters from Emsworth were called to the blaze shortly after 3am on Tuesday.

The fire also affected the front window and eves of the house it was parked outside and a neighbouring property.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the fire was started deliberately.

Sussex police is now investigating.

Detective Constable Ellie Hughes said: ‘The fire was extinguished and no-one was injured, but the motorbike was destroyed in the blaze and there was damage caused to the front windows, front door, and walls and guttering of the property. The fire also damaged a gas meter and melted piping which caused a gas leak.

‘A number of people are known to be in the area at around midnight and we would urge anyone to come forward if they saw anything.’
