FIRE and police are investigating arson after two motorbike fires were believed to be started deliberately.

At 11pm on Sunday, one crew from Cosham fire station were called to Cosham High Street.

A Pizza Hut moped had been stolen and then set alight.

Firefighters used one hose reel to put out the blaze – the moped was completely destroyed.

Firefighters believe it was stolen from the nearby Cosham branch of the pizza chain, before it was set alight.

In a second incident, also at 11pm, one crew from Gosport were called to Forton Recreation Ground, in Forton Road.

They also used a hose reel and the motorbike was a write-off. Police believe it was stolen.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said the two incidents are not being linked, but both are being investigated.

She said: ‘Police were called to two incidents at 11pm on Sunday.

‘The fire service was also in attendance.

‘The motorbike from Gosport had been stolen and set alight.

‘We’re working with the fire service and investigating them both separately.’
