AN appeal for information has been launched by police after a memorial plaque in Portsmouth was destroyed in an arson attack.

The plaque in Victoria Park was set fire to at some point in the past three weeks. The item has been completely destroyed.

PC James Scott said: ‘This is a particularly callous crime as the memorial had been laid in memory of the son of the lady reporting the damage.

‘This has been an extremely distressing time for the family who visit the memorial regularly to pay their respects.’

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or can identify the person or people responsible should contact PC Scott at Southsea police station on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
