A MAN was attacked on his doorstep in an unprovoked assault.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was watching television at his home in St Mary’s Road, Fratton, Portsmouth, when he heard a knock at the door.

When he answered it a man asked him if ‘Steve’ was there. The victim told him no-one called Steve lived at the address.

A second man then appeared and tried to push the front door.

The victim pushed it back and tried to close it. The men then hit him in the face before fleeing. The victims suffered bruising to his face and shoulder in the attack at 8pm on October 15.

Police have only just released details.

PC Helen Bibby said: ‘This was a nasty, totally unprovoked attack.

‘The victim does not know either of the offenders and there have been no similar crimes reported to us in the area.

‘The incident took place on a busy road and there is a bus stop nearby.’

The first man was white, possibly northern, 5ft 10in tall with short, strawberry-blond hair. He wore a grey and blue coat and jeans. The second man has short dark hair, is also possible northern and wore a grey hooded top and a scarf over his face. Call PC Bibby at Cosham station on 101.
