THIEVES tried to ram raid a cashpoint at a convenience store.

A black BMW ploughed into the machine outside the One Stop shop in Bridge Road, Sarisbury Green, triggering an alarm.

The car, which had false number plates, then left the scene, heading towards Southampton.

It was found abandoned 10 minutes later in Cutbush Lane, having crashed into a garden wall.

Now police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted raid, which happened at about 12.20am yesterday.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle is asked to call Detective Constable Gina Campbell at Fareham and Gosport CID on 101.
