Back-to-back reports of missing children resolved quickly by rescue teams at West Wittering beach

COASTGUARD rescue teams and lifeguards were quick to respond to two separate reports of missing children yesterday.

Both kids were found safe and well shortly after they were reported missing by members of the public from West Wittering beach.

A call informing authorities of the first disappearance was received at approximately 2.10pm. Selsea Coastguard Rescue Team were dispatched, and found the child in the same vicinity at around 3.05pm.

Before the first child was found, a second 999 call was received at 2.38pm reporting another missing child at the beach.

According to coastguard officials, a more ‘comprehensive’ search for the child was conducted.

Selsea Coastguard Rescue Team attended the scene, as well as West Wittering lifeguards on jet skis. Hayling Island Coastguard Rescue Team were also deployed to find the missing child, and an RNLI inshore lifeboat was dispatched from Hayling Island lifeboat station at approximately 2:52pm.

The second child was found safely in the vicinity of the beach at 3:30pm.

Sussex Police were also informed of both disappearances.
