A FRAUDSTER has been ordered to pay back £5,000 of benefits.

Amber Roper, 42, formerly of Forton Road, in Gosport, pleaded guilty to making a false representation on a housing and council tax benefit claim form.

And Roper did not tell Gosport Borough Council a property was joint owned since 1993.

As a result, she received benefit she was not entitled to.

At Fareham Magistrates’ Court Roper was given a 12-month community order, with 120 hours of unpaid work.

She must also pay £100 costs on top of the £5,000 overpayment.

It comes after an investigation by the council’s fraud investigation team.

Leader of the council Mark Hook said: ‘With more and more people in genuine need of help it is even more important that we bring those who fraudulently claim benefits before the courts and they are made to pay back any monies accrued. We’re proud of our benefit fraud officers’ hard work and excellent record of catching these people and bringing them to justice.’
