A body has found during a search for a missing Hampshire sailor.

Hugh Carter was last seen at Keyhaven Yacht Club on November 6 and is believed to have left the club at about 9.45pm.

A major search was carried out by emergency services over the following days but he was not found.

Hampshire Police has now confirmed a man’s body was found just after 3pm on Tuesday on the shoreline near Salterns Sailing Club in Lymington.

The identity of the man has not been established but Mr Carter’s family have been informed of the discovery.

Police said identification will take place ‘in due course’.

The search for Mr Carter has also been called off by emergency services.
