A BODY has been found washed up in the saltmarsh outside Chichester Harbour.

Police officers were called by the coastguard to the Itchenor Sailing Club, in Chichester, today.

They had received reports that someone had spotted a body in the water at around 5pm.

After arriving at the scene, officers recovered a body from an area just outside the harbour.

Police took the body to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester.

Officers from Sussex Police will now work with the Chichester coroner’s office to try and identify the person.

Police did not reveal whether the body belonged to a man or a woman.
