Portsmouth man appears in court accused of offering to pay for sex with woman in Welsh holiday resort

COVERT police have been tackling shoplifting, robbery, begging and the sale of fake perfume.

Hampshire police and trading standards carried out the uniformed and covert operations on December 11, 12, 19, 20 and 21, and seized 27 bottles of fake perfume and a stolen bike was returned to its owner.

Sgt Richard Holland said: ‘This was a very successful operation, which has had a significant impact on the city centre.’

Two people have been jailed for theft.

Separately, two people have been charged with offences:

n Joseph Shields, 38, of All Saints Road, Portsmouth was charged with robbery.

n David William Knipe, 36, of Princes Street, Portsmouth, was charged with theft from a shop.
