A BURGLAR broke into a home and escaped with a pair of designer handbags while the victims were asleep upstairs.

When the 45-year-old homeowner went downstairs for a drink at about 4.30am on Saturday he noticed the kitchen window and the French doors into the garden were open.

Police say he had gone to bed after locking up his home in Hunts Pond Road, Titchfield Common, at 1am.

A Mulberry handbag, an Armani handbag and a Mulberry purse containing up to £200 in cash, credit and debit cards – all since cancelled, and two sets of keys were all stolen in the raid.

PC Samantha Gee said: ‘If anyone saw any suspicious people or vehicles in that area at that time and date please contact the priority crime team at Gosport police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.’
