Burglar discovered in Gosport pensioner's home asks to use toilet and then steals purse

Police are investigating reports of the distraction burglary where a purse was stolen in Gosport.

The 73-year-old woman was asleep in her Grove Avenue home when she heard a banging noise. She got out of bed and saw a man inside her house and the door open.

He calmly told the victim he was in trouble and needed to call the police. He asked to use the toilet and before he left, he opened a kitchen drawer and took a purse containing cash.

The burglary happened between 6am and 7am on Monday.

The man was white, slim, in his late teens to early 20s, was clean shaven and possibly had blonde hair.

He was 5ft 7ins and wore a dark blue woolly hat, blue and white woolly gloves and a dark jacket and jeans.

Members of the Neighbourhood Policing Team have been patrolling the area and officers have been reviewing CCTV to try identify the man.
