JEWELLERY and money were stolen in a burglary.

A flat in London Road, Waterlooville, was broken into on Sunday and police believe the thief either climbed in through a window via the roof or a door in the shop below.

It happened between 11am and just after midnight.

The thief rummaged through the property and took a cash tin from a bedroom containing £1,200 in banknotes.

They took a black jewellery box which is 12in wide, 6in deep, with a front shaped like a 50p piece. It contained items of jewellery including gold rings, chains and earrings.

PC Nick Wisdom said: ‘This incident has taken place within a 12-hour timespan.

‘It may have happened during the day when lots of people were around.

‘Burglary is a rare crime but people should take preventative measures by making sure that valuables are left well hidden and windows and doors are locked when not in use.’

Anyone with information should contact PC Wisdom at Waterlooville police station on 101 or 08450 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
