BURGLARS smashed the patio door of a house and stole several pieces of jewellery.

Police are appealing for information after the theft from a house in Leveson Close, Gosport.

It happened at some time over the weekend between Friday and Sunday.

The homeowners were away on holiday but a neighbour noticed their gate was left open.

After having a look, the neighbour found the back patio door had been smashed and somebody had broken in.

The burglar had taken a gold wedding ring, an 18ct gold solitaire diamond ring, a federal pocket watch with a leather strap and a pearl bracelet.

They also took a ring and bracelet set with coloured stones, a gold bangle and a silver necklace with imitation diamonds.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious or can help track down the thief should call PC Samantha Gee at Fareham police station on 101.
