TRAINS have been disrupted on one south coast route due to thieves stealing signalling equipment.

Delays of up to 25 minutes are to be expected to and from Littlehampton until 8.30am after thieves struck in the early hours of the morning and stole the signal cable at Littlehampton.

Services running through from Littlehampton to Chichester, Bognor Regis, Portsmouth Harbour, Havant and Brighton are all affected and trains departing and arriving at the station will be manually signalled until a new cable is bought and installed at the railway station.

A spokesman from Network Rail said: ‘A new cable has been ordered from a depot and will be installed as soon as possible.

‘We need to lay the cable out and join it to where the original cable was stolen.

‘This will need to be safety tested before trains are back to normal operation.

‘There won’t be any alternative transport so unfortunately it means commuters will have to be patient and wait.’
