ALMOST half of cars targeted by thieves in Petersfield in the last three months were unlocked, according to police.

Hampshire Constabulary said of 23 reports of thefts from vehicles in the area in the period, 11 were left insecure.

PC Peter Gott said: ‘A large number of these crimes can be avoided if as a car owner you always lock your car, no matter how quick you intend to be, and take anything of value out of the car when you leave it unoccupied.

‘Park in a busy, well lit street and always activate your alarm or any other security features you have.’
