A CAR was destroyed after catching fire near a castle.

The Hyundai car was parked at Portchester Castle and went up in flames in the early hours yesterday.

A crew from Havant fire station went to the scene at about 3am and put out the fire using hose reels.

The car was left a burned out shell.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said the cause was unknown.
