A WOMAN was robbed at a cemetery in a handbag snatch, police have said.

At around 2.15pm on Monday, October 8, the 61-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man and her handbag was pulled from her shoulder.

She was pushed to the ground, leaving her with bruises on her arm, and the man ran off with her handbag. Her phone and purse were inside the bag.

The suspect was a slim, white man around 25-30 years old, with dark hair and thick eyebrows.

He was wearing a dark hooded top, which covered his head and sides of his face.

A card from the stolen purse was later used by a woman to buy a lottery ticket at the Co-op store in Wyndham Place. Police now want to identify the woman in the CCTV released today as part of the investigation.

Detective Constable Kimberley Bownes said: ‘Do you know who this woman is? We are keen to identify her as she may have information which could help with our investigation.

‘We would also like to hear from anyone who was in Southampton Old Cemetery at this time and remembers seeing anything suspicious.’

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting the crime reference number 44180379017.
