POLICE have released this CCTV image of a man wanted for stealing a mobile phone worth hundreds of pounds from a shop in Purbrook.

The thief struck at the One Stop shore in London Road.

Police said the victim had put his mobile phone down while putting change back into his wallet, walked away and then realised he had forgotten to pick it back up.

Meanwhile two men had walked past.

One of the men picked up the iPhone 5 and put it into his pocket before approaching the till area.

He waited for a few seconds before leaving the store at ahead of his friend at about 5.40pm on August 27.

Now Havant police have released the CCTV image of the suspect in a bid to track him down.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘This is a theft committed by someone who had the opportunity to hand the new iPhone 5 back to the victim.

‘The phone was mislaid for only a few minutes before it was stolen, but the victim immediately reported it to staff.’

Anyone with information is asked to contact police staff investigator Abigail Phillips at Havant CID on 101.
