A TASTE of Portsmouth’s past is on offer at a history fair.

Fair-goers will have the chance to listen to talks, meet local historical groups for information and advice, view historical displays, buy books and watch historical films.

Children visiting the event will have the first opportunity to sign up for this summer’s reading challenge – the Mythical Maze.

Groups providing information and advice on the day will include Baffins Reminiscence Group, Conan Doyle Collection, FamilySearch, Hampshire Genealogical Society, Portsmouth History Centre and Lest We Forget – Portsmouth Museum’s First World War project.

City councillor Linda Symes, who is in charge of culture, leisure and sport, said: ‘The Portsmouth History Centre is a fantastic resource containing the memories, records and stories of the city.

‘The annual history fair is a great way for residents to unlock this treasure trove of information and to discover the range of other sources and interest groups available in the area.’

Portsmouth History Fair is to be held from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, July 12 at Portsmouth Central Library in Guildhall Square.
