THIEVES stole Christmas presents from a parked car.

It happened overnight on December 1 and the theft was discovered the next day.

The car was parked in Prince of Wales Road, in Gosport.

Gifts that were destined for the owner’s children were taken.

Sergeant Lesley Meenaghan, from Gosport police, branded the crime as despicable.

Sgt Meenaghan said: ‘This is a despicable offence of theft – stealing toys that have been bought by a parent for their children for Christmas – in effect stealing from a child.

‘I would ask if anybody has any information as to who committed this morally-reprehensible crime to contact the police.’

Police are reminding people to make sure no items of value are left in cars and that drivers lock their doors.

Sgt Meenaghan added: ‘Remember if you see any suspicious behaviour report it to the police at the time.

‘Over the past year, the police, working with the community have caught a number of criminals resulting in prison sentences. Very often as a result of a resident reporting suspicious activity.’

Call police on 101.
