Commissioner clarifies future of city's police bases

PORTSMOUTH won't lose any police stations '“ that's what the county's police and crime commissioner has told city councillors.

Simon Hayes sought to clarify the situation over the city’s police stations. Speaking at the full council meeting, he said Cosham’s station would move into the nearby Medina House, while Southsea’s facility would relocate to Southsea fire station.

His aim is to combine Fratton and Portsmouth central into one, £30m three-and-a-half acre site in the city but said this had been tough as there was no site like this yet available. A back-up plan, he said, was to find two new areas to base the city’s police in.
