A COUPLE were targeted by robbers as they walked along a road at night.

The man and woman, both aged 24, were in Hulbert Road near the junction of Warfield Avenue, in Waterlooville, when the attack happened.

The man was assaulted by two men, who then stole the woman’s purse before fleeing.

PC Kat Wisdom, who is investigating the robbery which took place between 11.15pm and 11.30pm on Tuesday, said: ‘As the couple crossed the junction with Warfield Avenue, they heard footsteps behind them.

‘On turning around, the man was assaulted by two men he did not know.

‘After the assault, one of the men stole the woman’s purse before running off.

‘Although this happened late at night, it was next to a busy main road into Waterlooville.

‘It is likely that someone was driving past at the time and saw something.’

The male victim suffered injuries to his head and a hand.

The first man was white, 5ft 7in, stocky, in his late 20s, and had short fair hair and wore a black jumper and dark trousers.

The second was white, 5ft 9in, also aged in his late 20s and slim with short dark hair. He was wearing a cream top with a zip up the middle, and blue jeans.

Two men aged 26 and 27, from Waterlooville, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until February 7.
