Crackdown on doorstep crime as it's set to spike

THIRTEEN vehicles were seized and garden power tools recovered in a campaign against doorstep crime.

It comes as Hampshire police ran a campaign with Thames Valley Police ahead of an anticipated spike in the crime over the summer.

Between April 11 and 15, 250 staff members from 13 different organisations took part in the operation.

Officers visited 101 repeat victims and attended more than 190 community events to spread the word.

Chief Inspector David Winter, force lead for Operation Rogue Trader, said: ‘Our work to disrupt doorstep crime is not limited to this week of action – we will continue to strive to stop those who target vulnerable people who should feel safe in their home.

‘Working with Thames Valley Police is one way of tackling what can be a borderless crime.’

A Hampshire spokesman added: ‘Traditionally, the summer months see a rise in the number of reports of rogue traders, who often target vulnerable people for financial gain.’
