TWENTY people were reprimanded for cycling on pavements in a police crackdown.

Officers from Copnor and North End Safer Neighbourhoods teams conducted a one-and-a-half hour operation in London Road, Fratton Road, Gladys Avenue, Copnor Road, Tangier Road and Milton Road on Wednesday.

Fourteen people received £30 fixed penalty notices, one person was reported for summons and letters were sent to the parents or guardians of five under 16s.

Police community support officer Jude Knight said: ‘Although it may seem harmless to ride your bike on a pavement it compromises the safety of pedestrians and can lead to serious injury.’
