A DRIVER fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Geoffrey Groom pleaded guilty to driving a Hyundai Lantra in Marine Parade East, Lee-on-the Solent, without due care and attention on October 12 last year.

The 58-year-old, from Skipper Way, Lee-on-the-Solent, admitted falling asleep behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve across the road into the path of oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle.

Groom was fined £350 by Fareham magistrates. He was told to pay £85 in court costs and £15 into a fund for victims of crime. Six penalty points were added to his driving licence.
