PARTS of the A3(M) were closed for hours today after a crash.

Police are appealing for information after the collision on the southbound carriageway between Horndean and Waterlooville.

The driver, a 76-year-old man, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham with life-threatening injuries.

It happened at around 12.30pm and involved a green Vauxhall Astra.

One lane of the road was closed for three hours while police examined the scene and recovered the vehicle.

PC David Blake, of the Fratton Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘I would ask anyone who saw the collision, or the Vauxhall Astra vehicle travelling along the A3, to contact me on 101, quoting Operation Homborg.’
